The Senior Shuffle: 7 Important Steps to Moving Made Easy

Moving can be a real pain in the back, especially for seniors who have been living in the same home for decades. But fear not, my elderly friends, for I have some tips that will make your move smoother and funnier than a clown on roller skates!

  1. Start early, or whenever you feel like it. It's your move, after all. But seriously, start planning as soon as possible. Make a checklist and take your time. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was your move.

  2. Get help from your family, friends, or anyone who owes you a favor. If they complain, remind them of all the birthday gifts you've given them over the years. Or bribe them with cookies. Everyone loves cookies.

  3. Declutter like you're auditioning for "Hoarders: Senior Edition". Go through your belongings and ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" If the answer is no, donate or discard it. Your grandkids will thank you for not leaving them with a mountain of junk to deal with.

  4. Make a floor plan, or just wing it. Who needs a plan when you have senior intuition? But seriously, making a floor plan can help you visualize where everything will go in your new home. Just don't forget to label the rooms correctly. You don't want your bathroom furniture in the living room.

  5. Pack like a pro, or like a college student cramming for finals. Be sure to label boxes with their contents and where they belong. But don't worry too much about organization. The moving crew will love the challenge of figuring out where to put your 200 boxes of knick-knacks.

  6. Stay organized, or don't. Keep important documents in a safe place, or just shove them in your purse. Make a list of all the items you're moving, or just wing it and hope for the best. But seriously, try to stay somewhat organized. You don't want to accidentally pack your cat.

  7. Take care of yourself, or don't. Moving can be stressful, so be sure to take breaks, hydrate, and eat well. Or don't. Treat yourself to a day of pizza and wine. You deserve it after all those years of keeping your home in tip-top shape.

In conclusion, moving can be a challenge, but it can also be a chance to declutter, start fresh, and make some memories. Just remember to take it easy, laugh at the mishaps, and bribe your helpers with cookies. Give me a call if you want to chat about your back pain! Im here for you! 405-592-3132
